'The Pulse of Dakar’

Presented by Finnish/Senegalese artist
Macoumba (Maku) Ndiaye 

OPENING ON OCTOBER 18TH, 2026 AT 3PM

The Pulse of Dakar is Maku’s personal journey back to the city in which he was born - the City that shaped and surrounded, enveloped and nurtured him with the energy of the streets, the colors of the markets and the constant movement of everyday life.

Maku’s life in Finland and the distance both physical and also emotional to Dakar -  allows him to look back at Dakar through a new cultural prism, still embedded but also once removed.

His bold brushstrokes, layered colors and semi-abstract forms capture the moments when the individual melds into a crowd that produces the rich tapestry portrait which Dakar so often presents along the grandest of boulevards to the maze of alleys and passages in the so called ‘Quartiers Populaires.’

The Pulse of Dakar braids Maku’s  Senegalese roots and Nordic journey into vivid memories that have laid dormant and only recently manifested into what he calls:  ‘This is my Dakar - not a Postcard.’
