Selly Raby Kane:
“Designing in Altered States”
January/February 2026 (postponed from September 2025)
This show is intended to introduce Dakar fashion designer, film maker, futurist and trendsetter, Selly Raby Kane, to an Atlanta audience. Widely known in her native West Africa and beyond for infusing everywhere she goes, with that special brand of undefinable Dakar ‘cool’ that fuses the most ancient of traditions with the most avant garde visions of the future for the Continent and beyond.
Selly is firmly rooted as an unequivocal Dakar-based fashion and creative brand redefining the codes of contemporary African style through her very own future forward multidisciplinary approach. Since its launch in 2012, the brand has blended fashion, film, and visual art to build a bold and immersive universe rooted in Afrofuturism, surrealism, and Senegal’s rich material heritage.
Merging couture craftsmanship with narrative experimentation, Selly Raby Kane creates sculptural garments that channel collage techniques, fantastical imagery, and futuristic silhouettes. Each collection unfolds as a visual manifesto drawing from the subcultures, urban archives, and dreamscapes of Dakar.
With an international presence, Selly Raby Kane is currently distributed in Côte d’Ivoire, Nigeria, France, and Belgium, and has been showcased by cultural institutions such as the Museum of North Carolina, the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, MoMA PS1, and the Guggenheim.
Through fashion, film, and immersive installations, the brand crafts speculative stories that reimagine African futures and celebrate cultural innovation. Selly Raby Kane is more than a label, it is a creative ecosystem shaping new narratives from the continent.
In late January and early February, 2026 Selly and aKAZI will create the biggest Senegalese ‘Teranga’ welcome featuring kaleidoscopic fashion installations, VR films, and music. Attendees will experience a veritable ‘Day in the Dakar Art Eco-System’ in Atlanta.
